Humarap - Daphne Iking
Many know and have heard the name Daphne Iking. A TV host, events emcee, journalist, and content creator, the Sabahan has made a name for herself over her career. But, more than her work, Daphne is an incredible mum of four -- easily her most important job of all. Having faced all the challenges (and joys) of being a mother, she set up Humarap, an NGI that helps stateless mothers and babies in her home state.
Everyone’s fighting their own fight, but amidst the added challenges of COVID-19, some people are fighting their most basic need -- to eat. Many communities in Sabah right now are not able to provide for their families. Sometimes, these babies don’t have anything to drink except condensed milk.
Many babies and children are sick due to malnutrition, while a lot of children are infected by the virus. Milk plays an important role for them to be healthy and fight COVID-19. It is an essential product. Not every mother can breastfeed, as they can have three to four kids around the same age.
Humarap means 'hope' in the Kadazandusun language. Plie Malaysia is honoured to be teaming up with Daphne Iking to help the community and raise awareness about their plight. You can do your part to give them a bit of hope yourselves. Just use the code HUMARAPONE at check-out to get RM20 off your purchase while RM10 will be donated to the cause.
